About Us

Vision

Our vision is to economically and socially empower indigenous rural communities and minority groups in the rural areas of Pakistan. We aim to promote and engage in skill-based training, research, advocacy, and policy initiatives that facilitate green and just transition of Pakistan’s agricultural sector towards a sustainable, climate-resilient, productive, and forward-looking future. We believe that pathways rooted in an evidence-based, collaborative and participatory approach are the key to achieving food and human security.

Mission

The foundation of a thriving and resilient rural landscape and livelihoods is only possible through empowering local communities. We believe climate change can be addressed through climate-smart agriculture, food, and water security. This can be achieved through replicating and indigenizing the best-known global practices, and women in rural communities can be empowered through skill-based training and digitalization.

ABAD believes in respecting and rejuvenating ecosystems and empowering rural communities in Pakistan, particularly South Punjab by harnessing the collective power of climate-smart, sustainable agriculture, and grassroots-level partnerships.

Who We Are

We are socially cognizant, proud Pakistanis with a vision to streamline progressive change in the country’s agricultural sector. 39.3% of Pakistan’s population lives below the poverty line, of which 62.56% are based in rural areas and are dependent on agriculture as their main source of income.

ABAD Development Foundation is a non-profit, non-governmental organization focused on economic development, sustainable agriculture research, and skill-based training that empowers female labor in South Punjab through innovative solutions and skill-based training.

ABAD brings unique research-based solutions focusing on food security and human security in Pakistan. Our work centers around the agricultural sector to study current practices and social norms and explores pathways toward a green, sustainable future for the sector.

We seek to empower local and indigenous communities, particularly women, by providing insights and improving their capabilities and skill sets. Our interest lies at the crossroads of research, capacity building, and social empowerment for marginalized communities.

Our flagship project is based on improving women’s lives with chili farming in South Punjab; Through sustainable farming, we aim to empower the women of Dera Ghazi Khan by generating their own streams of income. This project aims to enhance the well-being of women in chili farming in South Punjab by enabling sustainable and decent work, providing training sessions, and raising awareness on how to achieve an overall improved quality of life.
